She calls herself “wizard rock” on her Facebook profile. Some describe her as “electro-pop.” But these words barely capture everything that Grimes has to offer. We recently caught her at Beach Goth 4 in Santa Ana, CA last weekend, putting on a great show with a mix of trapstyle songs and euphoric, beautiful battle cry anthems (and some solid dance routines). This isn't the image you might have of the complex artist. She is not shy about feeling under appreciated as a producer. In an interview earlier this year, she spoke about the subject openly. However, that's all about to change.
Her album Visions (2012) was made in GarageBand in about two weeks. The aftermath was sudden, finding herself on the roster at Jay Z’s Roc Nation management company and touring with Lana Del Rey. At this point, we're all ready to see her creative genius unfold with part two: her next album, Angels.
“Angels” is a highly anticipated work, filled with already viral singles. When Grimes released a track called “Realiti” back in March, she admitted the song wasn't originally going to make the cut on her album. However, the new track list shows that it will be on “Angels” (track 10 of 14). Maybe the fact that it's racked up about 7 million plays on YouTube without a proper release has something to do with it. You can grab the album here on iTunes by pre-order now and watch her new video for the first single, “Flesh Without Blood.”
“Angels” will be out officially on November 6th. You can read more about what Grimes used on the album here. Follow Grimes on Twitter for more updates. As you might expect, there's lots of colors and plenty of abstract art in “Flesh Without Blood.” Grimes really brings it, and the music adds her upbeat spark. Watch:
